Law of Ueki

The Law of Ueki (うえきの法則 Ueki no Hōsoku?) is a Japanese manga series by Tsubasa Fukuchi. It was first serialised in the manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday in 2002 and ended in 2004. Sixteen tankōbon volumes was compiled and published by Shogakukan. An anime adaptation was first broadcasted on TV Tokyo on April 4, 2005, ended with 51 episodes on March 27, 2006. It was produced by Studio Deen. A manga sequel, The Law of Ueki Plus (うえきの法則プラス Ueki no Hōsoku PURASU?), continues the series as of September 2005 by the same author and in the same magazine.

The manga was licensed for distribution in North America by Viz Media, while the anime adaptation was licensed by Geneon. On July 3, 2008, Geneon Entertainment and Funimation Entertainment announced an agreement to distribute select titles in North America. While Geneon Entertainment will still retain the license, Funimation Entertainment will assume exclusive rights to the manufacturing, marketing, sales and distribution of select titles. The Law of Ueki was one of several titles involved in the deal.[1] ImaginAsian TV broadcasted the anime series to the American audience starting early 2007.

Synopsis:

THE LAW OF UEKI

Thus begins the ultimate battle for all eternity to find the next god: a hundred handpicked "God Candidates", formerly angels, will vie for the position of god through a series of matches fought by their respective student "Power Users" - the winning Candidate becomes God, and the winning student receives a blank "zai" granting him any ability he desires!

The Candidates are thus sent to Earth to choose one "Power User" each - and Kobayashi chooses Kousuke Ueki, a well-meaning but clumsy middle-schooler, and grants him the power to turn trash into trees!

Armed with this, Kousuke must now learn to manipulate his powers in a deadly tournament where losing means you're out forever, and the power could fall into the worst hands! As the battle gets tougher with the evil Robert Haydn leading his gang in his ruthless and frightening deeds, follow the fight in Law of Ueki, where Kousuke faces an uphill task with everything at stake, in this energetic, action-packed anime with a quaint earth-friendly twist for everyone!
